Our Mission
At First Baptist Church of Sylvania, our mission is to glorify God by worshiping Him wholeheartedly, growing in the truth of His Word, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, ministering to those in need, and connecting as a family of faith. Everything we do flows from our desire to see lives transformed by the gospel — in Sylvania, throughout Georgia, and to the ends of the earth.
Our Story
First Baptist Church of Sylvania began in 1848 when a small group of believers gathered to worship God and share the good news of Jesus Christ in our community. Since then, countless lives have been transformed here — children have grown up learning God’s Word, families have been strengthened, and members have carried the gospel from Sylvania to the ends of the earth.
We thank God for the faithfulness of those who came before us, but we believe our greatest days are still ahead. Rooted in Scripture and committed to our mission, we trust God will continue to use First Baptist as a lighthouse for the gospel — right here in Sylvania and across the world.

At First Baptist Sylvania, we affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as our statement of faith. This confession is a treasure of Biblical truth and clarity about the things that matter. It expresses our commitment to the authority of Scripture, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and the mission of the church.

At First Baptist Church Sylvania, our staff serves with a shared heart for Christ, a love for people, and a commitment to God’s Word. Each member of our team works together to lead, equip, and encourage our church family to worship God, grow in faith, and live on mission for His glory.
Sean Vickers
Pastor
Sean began serving as Pastor of First Baptist Church Sylvania in 2025. He sensed God’s clear call to serve in full-time ministry during his college years and has been committed to serving the local church ever since.
Sean is passionate about preaching God’s Word with clarity and helping people understand how to apply it to their lives. His desire is to see lives transformed so that people glorify God through the way they live each day.
He is excited about what God is doing at First Baptist Sylvania and believes the Lord is building a strong foundation for the church to grow and make a lasting impact for His glory.
Sean is a devoted husband and father of five grown children—three daughters and two sons. He grew up in the South and enjoys hunting, fishing, fitness, and spending time outdoors. His first year in Sylvania, he harvested a trophy buck that now hangs proudly in the pastor’s office.
Psalm 19:14 is his ministry verse, and he prays it before preaching each Sunday:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Angela Mesecher
Church Secretary
Angela has served as Church Secretary at First Baptist Church Sylvania since 2013 and loves the opportunity to connect with and minister to people each day. She especially values moments when she can pray with others and offer encouragement.
A lifelong resident of Sylvania, Angela was led to this role through a family connection and a desire to serve her community. She has a heart for people and enjoys being a part of what God is doing through the church.
Angela is married with two grown daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially shopping and making memories with her girls. Her favorite verse, Ephesians 2:10, reflects her desire to be used by God to serve others and make a difference.
Clint Sheppard
Associate Pastor
Clint serves as Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church Sylvania and has a heart for connecting with people and helping them grow in their faith. He is especially passionate about praying with others and seeing people come to trust Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
A lifelong resident of Sylvania, Clint comes from a large local family. He began serving as a deacon and volunteer youth leader before becoming an intern. In 2015, he stepped into the role of Youth Pastor, and in 2021, he became Associate Pastor.
Clint is married and has five daughters. Outside of ministry, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching Star Wars, and running dogs—especially fox hunting. His favorite verse, John 3:16, reflects his heart for the Gospel and his desire to see others come to know Christ.
Jennifer Reddick
Preschool Ministry Leader
Jennifer has served as Preschool Ministry Leader at First Baptist Church Sylvania since 2022. She is passionate about creating a safe, loving, and Christ-centered environment where children can grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
As a wife and mother of three, Jennifer understands that the early years are a time of tremendous growth. She is committed to partnering with families to help lay a strong foundation of faith during this important stage of life and to point children to the love of Jesus.
Jennifer enjoys building relationships with children and families and investing in their lives through the preschool ministry. In her free time, she enjoys playing pickleball, thrifting, and spending time with her family.
